Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment
The Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment (www.slu.se/aquatic-sciences) is a competence center for applied environmental science and has national responsibility for assessing the conditions of Swedish surface waters with respect to water chemistry, pollution and aquatic biota. The department is part of SLU's Soil-Water-Environment Center and has about 100 employees. The research focuses on geochemical and hydrological processes, aquatic ecology and biodiversity, as well as environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology. The department houses well-equipped laboratories for chemical and biological analyses of environmental samples.

The campus area (Ultuna) is located in Uppsala, 35 km north of Stockholm Arlanda international airport.

The project (DANTE) is financed by the Swedish Research Council Formas. It aims to identify chemicals driving toxicity in the aquatic environment and to perform assessment of effects caused by the complex mixtures that can be found in the environment. Chemical pollution of the aquatic environment is an urgent problem both for aquatic organisms as well as human health since many water sources are used for drinking water production. While tens of thousands of chemicals are circulating in the environment, the regulatory agencies are in urgent need to identify compounds or complex mixture, which can cause toxicity.

Duties:
DANTE will apply effect-directed analysis (EDA) by combining bioassays, fractionation and state-of-the art chemical analysis (including non-target screening). The successful applicant will be responsible for method development and strategies in high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) screening including non-target analyses. You will work in an international, interdisciplinary team consisting of several senior researchers and PhD students. You will also be coworker in a larger research group focusing on organic environmental chemistry (www.slu.se/en/cv/karin-wiberg).

The post-doc is expected to take a leading role in the design and implementation of the research, publish scientific articles, and supervise students at the master's level.

Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a PhD in environmental analytical chemistry or equivalent. Solid expertise in mass spectrometry (MS) and good knowledge of transport and fate of micropollutants in aquatic ecosystems is required. Experience in HRMS of environmental samples and multivariate statistical analysis are valuable merits.

Emphasis is placed on personal characteristics such as interpersonal skills, analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently. Proficiency in English (both spoken and written) is required.

The position is full-time for a period of two years, starting as soon as possible with a possibility of prolongation.

The application should include 1) CV with publications list, 2) transcript of PhD exam, 3) a description of earlier research and a research statement, as well as 4) names and contact information of two reference persons.
