Description of Opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity for an in vivo electrophysiologist to join the Neuroscience (CNS & Pain) Innovative Medicines unit (iMED). You will drive a research project in analgesia implementing threshold tracking in rodents in vivo. Part of the post doc period will be spent learning concepts and techniques in our collaborator's laboratories and in clinical pain units in Europe.
The role's major responsibilities:
Establish the threshold tracking technique in a rodent pain model
Develop skills in neuroscience and understanding of the drug discovery/development process
Show strong initiative in developing ideas, and bringing them to functional use within AstraZeneca
Communicate results both within AstraZeneca and externally
The role:
This is a lab-based role and your results aim to increase the scientific understanding of our targets. The successful candidate will be a proactive self-starter who will be responsible for experimental design and the generation, interpretation and communication of data.
Minimum experience:
A PhD in neuroscience, pharmacology or equivalent
Experience from small animal surgery
Expertise in extracellular recordings or patch clamp methodologies
Preferred experience/requirements:
Experience from recordings from primary afferent neurons
Sound understanding of analgesia and the mechanisms contributing to nociceptor sensitization, excitability and ectopia.
Previous experience with quantitative software package
