Based in Mölndal, Sweden, the Innovative Medicines (iMed) unit for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases push the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines to patients suffering from Heart Failure, Diabetes or Chronic Kidney Disease.
As part of a European Union Marie Curie Initial Training Network (EU ITN) we are looking for a talented synthetic organic chemist for a post doctoral stay of 24 months. The focus of this project will be on the development of methods in the area of organofluorine chemistry and their applications to the preparation of medicinal chemistry relevant chemical entities.
The EU ITN network will also give the opportunity to the successful candidate to interact, meet and exchange with students and investigators from a range of academic and industrial groups across Europe with cutting edge expertise in the field of organofluorine chemistry.
Candidate Focus and Challenge
You will have an excellent opportunity to broaden your skills in both synthetic organic chemistry, as well as medicinal chemistry in a creative scientific environment as a member of our Medicinal Chemistry Department.
The focus of this project will be on the application of organofluorine chemistry to the preparation of molecular modalities with medicinal chemistry relevance to AstraZeneca with a special emphasis on non traditional small molecule approaches.
The project focus will be put on:
• the development of fluorinated building blocks and fluorination methods.
• applications to the preparation of complexes, medicinal chemistry relevant, fluorinated compounds.
• studies of the impact of fluorinated substructures on the properties of the final products e.g. conformation, chemical and metabolic stability, permeability.
Minimum experience
• A recent PhD-level education in synthetic organic chemistry.
• A strong scientific track record, as evidenced by published or accepted papers in well recognized peer-reviewed journals, oral and/or poster presentations at scientific meetings.
• In depth knowledge of modern synthetic organic chemistry.
• Previous experience in the preparation of macrocycles and/or organofluorine chemistry would be seen as an advantage.
Exclusions
For you to fulfil eligibility conditions for FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Networks you will need to fulfil the following criteria :
1. Your research experience may not exceed 5 years (post PhD) at the time of the appointment (01/09/2015).
2. You must not have resided or carried out your main activity in Sweden for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment.
