Type of employment: Fixed-term employment, 4 years if full-time studies Extent: 100 % Location: Sahlgrenska Academy, Gothenburg First day of employment: As agreed Reference number: UR 2015/419 Patients who are diagnosed with chronic heart failure and / or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) report low quality of life with symptoms such as fatigue and shortness of breath that often leads to dependence on other people to manage daily life. Supporting patients because they would be able to manage their condition should therefore be an essential part of health professionals' mission. Concepts such as "self-care" and "self-reliance" is often used in health care education. One measure to provide support can be in the form of information and communication technology efforts to improve conditions for people's self-care. To strengthen self-reliance is an important goal for chronic and prolonged illness. A person-centered an approach has proven to be an effective strategy to increase patients' confidence. In a person-centered approach is the shared decision-making, partnership an important component of care, because it leads to a personal involvement in their own health management. eHealth and mHealth are growing and becoming increasingly integrated in today's health care. However, it has been shown that several factors influence the effect of an eHealth support, such as scope and quality of the various actions. Therefore, it is important to study the requirements of potential users have to make efforts accessible and functional in accordance with users' needs through a person-centered perspective. The project's overall objective to develop and evaluate information and communication technology health initiatives (ICT) in the form of a personal health diary and telephone support to provide information, education and support to people with chronic heart failure and / or COPD. Evaluation will be done by ICT support quality and usability and its effect on people's self-reliance as well as disease-specific hospital readmission. The PhD student position comprises 4 years full-time studies and leads to a doctoral degree. The position is funded via doctoral studentship.

Beskrivning av kvalifikationer:
Eligibility: The general entry requirement is fulfilled if you have either a second cycle degree or have completed courses at an academic level corresponding to at least 240 credits. At least 60 of these credits (corresponding to 1 year of full-time studies) must be at second cycle level. You also need to fulfill the specific entry requirement which is an English proficiency requirement equal to the Swedish course English B/6.
