The School of Natural Sciences is part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The research activities within this multidisciplinary school include the areas of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Organic Chemistry, Marine Ecology and Microbiology.
Project title:
Systems Biology of Microbial Biofilms
The research project: The project will use systems biology and microscopic techniques to investigate mixed and pure species microbial biofilms from two different deep sub-surface environments. The project aims to compare the microbial ecology and growth conditions of the contrasting lithotrophic environments.
Applicants should have a minimum of a good undergraduate degree although candidates with a Masters Degree (240hp/240ECTS) or corresponding experience would be at an advantage. Documented evidence of research in systems biology, microbiology, or biofilms would also be an advantage. Basic requirements for post-graduate studies are laid out in the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (Högskoleförordningen), Chapter 7.
The PhD studies are limited to 4 years (100%) but may be extended to 5 years through teaching at the undergraduate level. Successful completion of the post-graduate studies will lead to a PhD in Microbiology. The starting point for the PhD education is negotiable. The position is located in Kalmar.
