This project, named after Professor Torsten Hägerstrand (1916–2004), aims to make surveys on peoples’ daily activities by collecting mobility information from sensors like GPS receivers. The surveys will be carried out voluntarily and anonymously to protect against intrusions on personal integrity. The survey datasets will be mapped and analyzed using cutting-edge geographic information technologies, in order to uncover geographic knowledge in various forms of patterns, structure, relationships and rules about human activities. The uncovered knowledge will significantly contribute to sustainable urban planning.
The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council FORMAS and will be managed at the Department of Technology and Built Environment, at the University of Gävle, in collaboration with the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (KTH) via their research school.
The full-time post graduate studies as a PhD student and temporary aim to a doctoral degree, with the possibility of an intermediate licentiate degree, in geoinformatics at KTH and to begin as soon as possible. A PhD position in Sweden is one year with an intention of an annual prolongation of maximum five years in total. The position is in Gävle.
KvalifikationerWe are now seeking for a candidate of post graduate studies who is specialized in geography, geographic information systems or computer sciences. The candidate shall be familiar with the latest version of the ArcGIS family software and have good experience in computer programming, in particular ArcObjects. The candidates with previous GIS research experience will be given favourite consideration.
The primary task will be research and post graduate studies, but lecturing and supervision at the geomatics programme and/or administrative tasks may be included to a maximum of 20% of full time.
Prerequisite is a master’s degree in geography, geographic information systems (GIS), geoinformatics, geomatics or computer sciences.
