We are looking for two physicians to join our multidisciplinary research team. You will help advance the science of pharmacovigilance by exploring the risks and benefits of medicines.
Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is an independent non-profit foundation and centre for international service and scientific research. As the World Health Organization's (WHO) Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring, we seek to identify adverse effects of medicines based on real-world data - so-called safety signals. An important source of information are the almost 25 million individual case safety reports of suspected adverse drug reactions in the WHO global database, VigiBase, which we maintain and analyse. These reports have been shared by 142 national pharmacovigilance centres across the world who are members of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring.
In UMC's Pharmacovigilance Science section, we analyse risks and benefits of medicines in use. We do this on our own and in collaboration with experts around the world. We also develop improved or new methods to analyse observational medical data to support wise therapeutic decision-making, in relation for example to drug interactions or risk factors for adverse drug reactions. Finally, we support external domain experts in their assessment and evaluation of data from VigiBase and participate in pharmacovigilance training initiatives with a focus on analysis.
What you will do
You will contribute with medical knowledge and clinical expertise to scientific development and analysis for pharmacovigilance. You will be working with the detection and assessment of possible safety signals in a passionate team of pharmacists, medical doctors and data scientists. You will participate in scientific investigations with clinical, pharmacological or methodological focus. In the detection of preliminary signals and in-depth assessments you will also collaborate with experts around the world. You will help in disseminating findings and research results in reports, scientific articles, abstracts, posters and presentations.
Who you are

You have broad medical experience (e.g., general practitioner or general medicine)
You have strong analytical capability and interest
You are innovative, driven and enjoy using data to better understand the world
You are generous and enjoy working with others to solve problems

It is an advantage if you have hands-on experience of pharmacovigilance or medical data analysis
