The team Packaging Engineering consist of a group packaging engineers with the mission to industrialize new packaging solutions and first tier suppliers in the supply chain according to Volvo Cars Manufacturing System (VCMS) principles and Volvo Cars Production Development System (VPDS). The group is responsible for the development, implementation and handing over of packaging solutions towards Volvo Cars production sites. All parts delivered to a plant must be transported and handled in packaging that are quality assured, ergonomic to handle and cost efficient. This is applicable in the complete supply chain, including empty return flows.
As a Packaging Engineer you will implement packaging solutions in new car projects of bought body components to A-shops in Volvo Cars Gent Volvo Cars Torslanda. You will work with development of packaging engineering towards and together with part suppliers, ensure timely system updates of relevant packaging data, and ensure cost efficiency and quality of packaging solutions. You will also ensure common practice and packaging solutions for multiple plants and provide support to local plant packaging engineers when necessary. This requires continuous collaboration with departments such as MHE, R&D, Purchasing, SCC, IE / Production etc.
Main responsibilities
• Develop and implement packaging solutions for car projects and facelifts for Volvo cars assembly plants
• Represent Packaging Engineering after PC gate in collaboration with ME, R&D and Purchasing
• Follow up and update packaging development systems according to packaging engineering deliverables
• Follow up and monitor deliveries and related costs of new type bound packaging connected to packaging engineering deliverables
• Handing over from Packaging Engineering to local Packaging Engineering in receiving plant and Packaging Operations
Required qualifications
• M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering
• Experience in logistics and production within Automotive
• Experienced in packaging development
• Knowledge from CAD/CATIA drawings
• Good knowledge in IT tools such as MS Office package
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
• Drivers license B
• Experienced in packaging development is meritorious
• Knowledge of Volvo Cars Manufacturing System (VCMS) principles and Volvo Cars Production Development System (VPDS) processes is an advantage
