The GSM/EDGE system is an Ericsson success story that has had a tremendous impact on the way we communicate. The success continues with billions of subscribers enjoying the benefits of high quality speech and data services offered by GSM/EDGE, adding almost 40 million new GSM subscribers every month. To support the continuous growth of GSM/EDGE while maintaining the high reputation of the system, Ericsson is determined to continuously contribute to the GSM standardization as well as develop new GSM/EDGE functionality. The GSM RAN BSS & BSC System Management department plays an important role in these activities as the department is responsible for both GSM/EDGE Radio Access Network development and standardization projects.
Job description
As our world-class GSM/EDGE system is continuing its global expansion we are now looking for creative and innovative system engineers to join the GSM RAN System Management department. We need your help to fulfill our ambition to support and drive the evolution of GSM/EDGE speech and data services. If you join us you will be working with GSM/EDGE Radio Access Network standardization and development, as well as Radio Access Technology interworking.
At our department you will face challenges covering a wide range of areas related to GSM/EDGE packet data services as well as GSM speech services. You will be involved in the evaluation and development of new GSM/EDGE Radio Network functionality, BTS (Base Transceiver Station) and BSC (Base Station Controller) algorithms, as well as BSS (Base Station System) capacity studies.
The main work tasks will be to independently execute studies within standardization and pre-development projects. In your daily work you will be encouraged to solve various problems and perform investigations with our simulation tools. The work tasks involve simulations as well as writing reports and presenting the results. At our department, as a system engineer, working within the standardization and pre-development area, you will be offered to work in an international environment where close cooperation with our customers as well as participation in discussions with other vendors is part of the daily tasks.
Qualifications
We expect you to be confident, and prepared to embrace challenges as they arise. You must be prepared to work in a fast moving environment and be ambitious and committed to your work. You will work independently and as a team player with a focus on delivering results on time with high quality.
We expect that you have:
• A Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Programming Experience in Matlab and an object oriented language such as C++ or Java.
• Fluently written and spoken English.
• Telecommunication knowledge is an advantage.
