A Learning Support Assistant (LSA) is being sought for a 5 year-old boy in our Altorp site. The child has a physical disability (cerebral palsy). Whilst being involved in supporting children's learning, the successful candidate's main role will be to assist the child with everyday tasks, participation in all areas of schooling, as well as deliver therapy as directed by the child's therapists during school hours. The child has been in mainstream education and his needs are physical. He is mobile but requires assistance and supervision, for example, while walking with a frame or his wheelchair, in the playground, to get dressed and undressed, at mealtimes and to attend classes with his peers.
The job requires a candidate with who is energetic, has an excellent level of fitness and is able to spend long hours on his/her feet. A high level of "can do", positive attitude and flexibility is a must for this rewarding role. Previous experience of working with children with special needs and/or children and adults with physical disabilities is a strong advantage. Special needs training to a European, Australian/NZ, or North American standard is strongly recommended for this post. Prior experience as a pediatric physiotherapist or occupational therapist is also welcome. The job will require the candidate to undergo training, at times out of school hours and to accompany the student to or from Stockholm to school (drop off or pick up). Transport to and from Stockholm can be provided with the family.
Main tasks will include:
Assisting the child to access all areas of education and encouraging independence
Providing occupational, physiotherapy and/or speech and language therapy sessions throughout the day, according to training and plans provided by the child's therapists
Helping the child navigate access to all areas, including classroom, playground, dining hall and assembly
Incorporating advice from therapists in the student's learning and day to day activities
Encouraging communication both with peers and with teaching staff
Support with daily routines such as toileting (nappies) and hand washing
Sitting with the child at lunchtime to support with eating and tidying up
Communicating effectively with all staff,
Regularly communicating with parents and therapists, ensuring a strong relationship and understanding of needs
Communicating with parents to receive training and give regular updates
Accompanying the child to or from school (drop off or pick up, Transport provided)

Essential skills:
Fluent in both verbal and written English
Experience of working with children/adults with special needs
Experience of working with children/adults with a physical disability
Ability to learn quickly and absorb training from specialists
Ability to replicate this training and delivery therapy sessions during the day (physio,OT), as directed by the child's program
Flexible team player with good interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently
Physically fit and able to spend long hours on his/her feet

Desirable skills:
Relevant school-based or child-based experience welcomed
Physiotherapy or occupational therapy experience an asset
Knowledge and practical understanding of Early Years approaches to teaching and learning
