On 1st January 2010, Linnaeus University opened its doors for the first time as Sweden's newest university, the result of a merger between Kalmar University and Växjö University. 

The School of Natural Sciences is part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The research activities within this multidisciplinary school include the areas of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Organic Chemistry, Marine Ecology and Microbiology.

The research group of Marine phytoplankton ecology and applications at Linnaeus University now seeks a laboratory assistant with a background in marine ecology.

The position involves performing processing water samples for determining both biological and chemical parameters, using a variety of laboratory equipment, including using and preparing chemicals. A large part of the position is working with microscopic identification of phytoplankton. Work duties also include administrative and support function, such as reporting cost breakdown of a project, ordering laboratory material and updating webpages. The position also involves educational duties tutoring and supervising students during laboratory exercises and field trips.

Applicants should have a University Master degree in Biology (240 ECTS) with focus on aquatic/marine ecology. The applicant should have a good expertise in phytoplankton taxonomy and identification, be able to prepare reports to document their findings. Documented experience of on-the-job training is advantageous. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Swedish are essential. Good knowledge in the use of Office-tools and previous knowledge about the program Polopoly are beneficial. B-license for car is required. The position is located in Kalmar
