We at Volvo Cars Diagnostics and Dependability section in cooperation with Chalmers can now offer a position as industrial PhD student. The section "Diagnostics & Dependability" at Volvo Cars consists of over a hundred highly motivated engineers. We work in all development phases; from early advanced engineering to after sales market follow up with Powertrain diagnostic and dependability and are responsible for strategies, specifications, function development, calibration, verification and legal interpretation.
The fast development of new technology in vehicles puts demands on fault detection and fault isolation that influences the ability to correct faults and errors in vehicles. This ability influences customer satisfaction, emission levels, vehicle dependability and warranty cost.
The purpose with this project is to increase the diagnostic performance by including information from surrounding systems and use multivariate technics in order to model fault patterns and identify classes. When a fault pattern with corresponding causes are classified the classification model will be used in workshop computer system in order to immediately classify a fault if a vehicle exhibits a known pattern.
We aim to strengthen our advance engineering team working with the next generation of diagnostic fault tracing method with an industrial PhD student skilled in mathematics and statistics. Main responsibilities are development and implementation of multivariate density modelling in embedded systems and machine learning framework for fault clustering together with classification in a back-end system.
The academic part of this industrial PhD position is done at the signal processing group, department of Electrical Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. Your major responsibility as a PhD student is to pursue your own doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing. The position also includes teaching at Chalmers' undergraduate level to an extent not exceeding 10%.
Qualifications:
* Master of Science degree or equivalent documented education/experience in Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or similar.
* Knowledge of statistical analysis methods
* Good ability to plan and deliver solutions
* High social competence
* Good in English language
Meritorious knowledge:
* Good knowledge in Script-based programming (MatLab, Python)
* Experience in analysis of multivariate probabilistic models
* Experience in machine learning methodology for classification
* Comprehensive overview of data storage and data analysis framework
* Implementation in embedded systems (Simulink, C)
