Role description

We are recruiting a Head of Legal with global responsibility to provide legal support to the Volvo Autonomous Solutions organization and develop the objectives for the legal and compliance function. You will monitor, assess and handle legal and compliance risks within the area of designing, operating and supporting customer-oriented autonomous solutions and services for Volvo Group. You will work in close co-operation with the technical and business organizations.
In this role, you will leverage your business perspective and ability to apply this perspective to legal analysis in order to devise solutions that meet regulatory, business and organizational needs. You will use both a "business" and a "legal" approach, requiring responsibilities and competencies in various areas of corporate law, negotiation, deal-structuring, corporate governance and risk management.
You will report to the President Volvo Autonomous Solutions and be a member of the Volvo Autonomous Solutions Management Team.
Key Responsibilities
Provide high quality legal advice to the daily operations, including to review, interpret, draft, revise and negotiate terms for contracts and agreements, including, but not limited to: customer, vendor, collaboration, partnership, development, and technology licensing
Oversee and ensure protection and risk mitigations related to intellectual property, and software
Provide support with respect to general data, data privacy and data security matters, IPR, export control and open source; as well as handle disputes and litigations
Provide relevant trainings and supporting documents such as contract templates and guidelines to the organization
Anticipate and address legal matters, develop resolution strategies, lead/oversee and/or personally execute on these matters, and handle potentially difficult situations diplomatically
Collaborate and partner with key stakeholders across the business, seek to understand needs, help to inform, educate and evangelize best practices
Provide guidance and direction in regard to regulation and legislation, and for permits required to operate in the space of autonomous vehicles
Implement Volvo Group policies, strategies and procedures within the legal field and promote legal compliance
Collaborate with other legal functions within the Volvo Group to secure alignment and successful execution
Management experience must include managing and overseeing the work of other attorneys both internal and external legal resources
Champion a culture in line with Volvo values and principles
Be a member of Volvo Autonomous Solutions Management Team. As a member of the leadership team you will be involved in business development activities and other projects
Participate in Boards, Councils, Committees and Networks as deemed appropriate
Competence Profile & Qualifications
Substantial commercial contracting experience, including reviewing, drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements
Requires staying abreast of relevant laws and regulations impacting the areas of autonomous driving and the ability to canvass, understand and apply those to autonomous solutions
Extensive experience in business/transaction management and a solid knowledge within the legal fields of data and intellectual property
Experience from software-, service-based and/or data-driven business is a merit
Excellent analytical skills and proven ability to apply legal, business, technical and financial aspects in providing value adding business advice (in addition to legal advice) to senior and top level management
Experience as a leader with the intellect and presence to become a true business partner across V.A.S., capable of contributing to broader business conversations beyond your functional expertise
Strong business acumen and gravitas in internal and external meetings and have extensive experience of representing legal and compliance matters in a concise and clear manner
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Good judgment and strong personal credibility, integrity and creativity
Successful in building excellent working relationships with your outstanding interpersonal skills, collaborative nature, and team-player attitude that enables you to operate effectively as a member of a management team
Excellent professional skills and ability to work in a fast paced, a willingness to roll up your sleeves to get thing done while working in a multicultural and diverse environment
You have a Master's degree or equivalent as the basis for your career. We believe that you have around 10-15 years of work experience. You are fluent in English. International business experience is a merit. The successful candidate will have shown a winning attitude and great persona in combination with a strong track record and references.
Location & Timeline
