Group Manager Supportive Safety

At RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT you will be a key contributor to the next generation outstanding luxury cars from Volvo. Together with other engineers over the world, you and your team will create innovative human-centric car technology that makes life less complicated and more enjoyable for people. As GROUP MANAGER SUPPORTIVE SAFETY you will lead a new group consistent of 15-17 engineers, currently about 50% Volvo employees and 50% consultants from different companies. The different roles in the group are task leaders and engineers working with systems, HW and SW development. The section Safety Electronics is growing and therefore we are extending the section with a new group called Supportive Safety, where we collect the development responsibility for our entire camera and ultrasonic based Park Assist systems as well as the radar based Rear and Side Detection system enabling Blind spot information etc. We have a good spirit throughout the entire department and can offer work within one of the most interesting areas at Volvo Cars.

We are working with development of state-of-the-art automotive safety technology providing a lot of the key selling points to our vehicle programs. The work is carried out in close collaboration with our global supplier base. We are involved in projects ranging all the way from research to industrialisation and quality work on our existing products. In this role you will report directly to the section manager Tomas Andersson.

The development within Safety Electronics and Functions has been one of the fastest growing parts of Volvo for the last decade especially within the Active Safety and Driver Support area. Volvo is the leading car manufacturer within this area and is consistently launching world first Safety features in our vehicles.

Job profile:

• Secure delivery of agreed program content at the required time, at agreed cost and with high quality.
• Responsible for development and maintenance of a Commodity Business Plan (CBP) within the area of Supportive Safety.
• Based on the CBP, secure that system and component solutions are optimised between different programs and follow up that agreed strategies are followed and implemented.
• Approve specifications and other kinds of product documentation.
• Resource planning for the Supportive Safety groups responsibilities in all development phases (from research to industrialisation), considering both resource and competence needs.
• Provide resource estimates for different kinds of new requests.
• Engage in the long term competence development for the individuals in the group.

Your profile:

• Technical education on University level.
• Practical and theoretical knowledge about the Volvo Cars product development process and especially the electrical development process, or experience of product development within electrical engineering in another business area.
• Experience from leading product development assignments and ability to motivate a team to deliver on time, at agreed cost with high quality both in product and in execution.
• Experience from requirement specification and product documentation.
• Previous management experience is considered an advantage but not a must
• Ability to mentor and practically guide the group members in performing their tasks.
• Structured, thorough and comfortable in summarizing and presenting the status of your tasks.
• Ability to take initiatives, plan, manage and follow up your and your groups work towards overarching objectives.
