The department Exterior within R&D is responsible for design, development and maintenance of exterior systems. The group Exterior Glass consists of 16 engineers with the responsibility for glass and WEM-covers. We work in an international environment and in close co-operation with; styling, purchasing, manufacturing, attribute centers as well as external suppliers. The wide range of components and technical complexity serves as a base for an exciting and challenging work in a group with high competence, good atmosphere and a lot of team-spirit. We are now looking for a driven, forward-thinking Group Design Leader that will support our tem.
As Group Design Leader (GDL) you will be responsible for the development of glass and WEM-covers in one of our main vehicle programs. The work is carried out in a cross-functional team and as a GDL you will be responsible for managing and leading the design work through the development phase, i.e. from concept phase to running production. As GDL you have the responsibility for keeping time, technology and cost within agreed target as well as secure quality assured deliveries. As you will lead the supplier during the product development, the role requires high business acumen and leadership skills. You should see complex and technical problems as a challenge and be able to suggest different solutions. A holistic view is needed to understand the role of your system in the overall vehicle.
Main responsibilities
* Develop the design and manage the assignments in the cross-functional team
* Secure that the assignments time plans meets the overall project plan.
* Responsible for budget and cost.
* Report the assignment status and decisions to the System Project Leader and Line management.
* Anchor decisions, development, status and prognosis for the assignment with the project manager and line management.
* Communicate targets, obligation, status and prognosis for the assignment.
* Make actions to eliminate deviations and report them.
* Responsible for managing the release of all technical documents (ESOW/DPR/TR/Drawings/Models/etc.)
Required qualifications
* B.Sc. degree or clear evidence of equivalent experience & knowledge
* Proven experience as Design Leader
* Fluent in English, written and spoken.
* Previous experience of working with plastic and preferably glass
* Experience from working in the automotive industry
* Meritorious if you have experience from product development within Volvo Cars
* It is beneficial if you have experience from Volvo Cars systems such as KDP, Pecca Procost, LEQM etc.
