The Fisheries Secretariat (FishSec) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection and restoration of marine ecosystem services, with a focus on fisheries. Our long-term goal is well managed seas with rich biodiversity and thriving fish stocks to secure healthy and local seafood to consumers and a sustainable fishing sector. We advocate for fisheries working within the limits of the marine ecosystem, preserving marine resources as well as their habitats.
FishSec is recruiting a new team member to work with the implementation of the EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), focusing on regionalisation and fisheries management in the Baltic Sea. Work tasks include analysing scientific advice and policy proposals, writing policy briefs, as well as extensive contact with other stakeholders i.e. through the Baltic Sea Advisory Council and other regional fora.
At FishSec, we work in an international environment with partners all across Europe, engaging with decision-makers, civil servants, NGOs, scientists and the fishing sector. We advocate and build stakeholder alliances to ensure sustainable ecosystem-based fisheries, and a thriving marine environment.
The position as Fishery Policy Officer requires the following;
• Experience of policy work (preferably fisheries) within the EU, a national government or other organisation. Good understanding of EU political and regulative processes.
• Knowledge of fisheries management concepts, such as stock management, maximum sustainable yield and fishing capacity, and/or work experience of fisheries management and/or environmental management
• Skills in extracting and summarising key issues in scientific and policy papers in a way that makes it easy to understand
The position also requires excellent communication skills, in both written and spoken English. Personal responsibility, cooperativeness and good structure in work is key.
You as an applicant fulfil above criteria.
Experience in international project management and co-ordination and/or an academic background in ecosystem-based fisheries or marine management will be very valuable. Knowledge of other European languages, especially German, Danish and Polish is a bonus.
At FishSec we believe change happens through a participatory, inclusive and fair process. We are convinced that improving our marine environment and fisheries need a broad stakeholder process.
This is a one-year position that can continue into a permanent employment. The daily work is based in the office located in the central part of Stockholm, Sweden. We prefer electronic applications, sent to
recruitment@fishsec.org by June 28 2020. We would like you to start in August 2020.
