The Faculty of Medicine is a part of Lund University, and is responsible for education and research within medicine and healthcare. Our academic programmes are closely linked with the healthcare system and are firmly anchored in the faculty's strong research tradition. Our research spans a broad field within experimental preclinical research, near-patient clinical research and health sciences research. The Faculty of Medicine, with its 1,800 employees and 2,700 students in Lund and Malmö, is a knowledge-intensive meeting place for students, teachers and researchers from all over the world.
The Department of Experimental Medical Sciences mission is to perform molecular, cellular and integrative research at the highest international level and to train a new generation of successful scientists.
We study biological processes that govern normal human bodily functions that are involved in disease pathogenesis. Several of our research environments have been recognized as outstanding both at the national and European levels. We also strive to stimulate our undergraduate students with our enthusiasm for research and wish to increase their interest in both basic and applied sciences. We expose them to the most up-to-date teaching methods and prepare them for lifelong learning in their future careers.

The project is part of BrainMatTrain, a four-year project, funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 Programme (H2020- MSCA-ITN-2015) under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Initial Training Network and Grant Agreement No. 676408. The project focuses on the scale up, commercialisation and translation of functionalised biomaterial constructs for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The BrainMatTrain network comprises four academic institutes, two hospitals and two industry partners from seven European countries (Ireland, Austria, Sweden, France, Denmark, the Netherlands, and United Kingdom).
