Diploma work - Measurement Engineer - to Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB in Finspång
Measurement and instrumentation, is a group within test, research and development. The group is responsible for development and realisation of instrumentation design, data acquisition equipment and systems, instrumentation and realisation of development testing.
Purge of pressure system - Background
When measuring pressure in gas turbines, pipes are used between the measurement point and the pressure measurement system. In these pipes it will be moisture when the turbine and pipes cool down between runs. To get rid of this moisture air or nitrogen is blown through the pipes. This procedure looks different at different test locations. In some locations air of low pressure is blown all the time from shutting down the turbine to the next start of the turbine and on the other nitrogen is purged through the system in some seconds after shut down and before starting a new run.
Objective
This diploma work will investigate the different methods to get a better understanding to take a decision for the future of which method to use. To perform this investigation a pressure measurement system need to be assembled and configured. Different ways of purging the system should be designed and built up. Measurements should be done and the results should be analyzed, conclusions should be made resulting in a proposal for future systems.
Time Schedule
We would like the work to be started preliminary January 15, 2018 and it will be divided in the following parts:
• Literature study - 2 weeks
• Ordering of systems/components for testing - 1 week
• Preparation for test - 2 weeks
• Test of measurement systems - 2 weeks
• Documentation and reporting - 3 weeks
Supervisor for the diploma work is Hans-Olov Skog.
