The project includes the most powerful linear proton accelerator ever built, a five-tonne, helium-cooled tungsten target wheel, 15 state-of-the-art neutron instruments, a suite of laboratories, and a supercomputing data management and software development centre. In the context of its history and future as a scientific organisation, however, it is more than the sum of its parts. It is a brand new Big Science organisation and we are building it from the ground up.

About the role
We are now looking to appoint a DevOps Engineer to our Controls Infrastructure Group, within our IT Division. The DevOps Engineer will work in a functional unit consisting of three members of staff. The team is tight-knit, collaborative and supportive.
Tasks and responsibilities include to:
• Maintain and operate the software infrastructure required for software deployed on our IT infrastructure, following standardised software development, testing and deployment processes using industry best practices.
• Design, implement, maintain and operate software testing and deployment processes for users with continuous integration and deployment pipelines (CI/CD.
• Maintain the various software development environments and support technical teams and software developers with tools and processes to ensure consistent and appropriate software development lifecycle pipelines are in place.
• Assist in standardising the deployment of software and configuration on various systems.
• Participate in the implementation of Operations & Infrastructure Directorate related projects for software development, test and production deployments.
• Actively monitor, maintain and ensure the security updates are performed for development services such as software repositories (DevSecOps).
• Actively participate and maintain an appropriate level of software bill of materials in line with the cyber security risk assessments of software and related assets.
This is a 3-year fixed term position with the possibility of extension, based in Lund, Sweden. We need someone who can start as soon as practically possible.
About you
Ideally you have a master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of ICT Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent working experience. You have extensive, substantial experience - approximately 10 years - from the tasks above and you are comfortable with using the Git and Linux command line interface, are familiar with Python, Docker and Kubernetes, have previous experience with Infrastructure as code (IaaC) such Ansible, Puppet, Terraform and you have previously setup and configured CI/CD automation using Jenkins, Gitlab or Github actions. You have worked in an international environment, for example within academia, R&D or industry.

Fluency in written and spoken English is a requirement, as it is the working language at ESS.
