Battery Cell Component Owner, Traction Battery System

At Traction Battery System, we are passionate! Join us as Cell Component Owner in the Battery Cell Usage & Durability group. In this position, you will lead the development of the battery usage strategies in a project working within the internal Battery Cell Team towards a battery cell supplier.
We are dedicated to electrify our brand in a broad effort with Plug-In Hybrids (PHEVs) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). The company target is to electrify 10% of the cars in 2020 and to have 1 million electrified cars on the road in 2025. The battery technology continuously undergoes rapid and frequent changes. Mastering the batteries by having the cell technology competence is one of the main keys for a successful electrification of our vehicles. We are now in the beginning of this very exciting journey.
The Traction Battery System department is responsible for developing the high voltage battery systems. We are the core competence centre in Northern Europe in regards to Li-ion technology and automotive battery systems.
In the Battery Cell team, we are responsible for the battery usage strategies to make sure we have a reliable battery performance & durability in our electrified vehicles. We have the cell chemistry competence to support performance and life model development, performance and life testing and the system safety team with cell safety knowledge. The team is also responsible for future cell strategies and support cell suppliers and material companies to develop cells tailored for Volvo Cars attribute requirements.
You will work to improve the quality of the battery system by bringing a state-of the art technologies and experience to the team. We are looking for someone to expand our team of engineers, ensuring quality with an agile approach with focus on the work that adds the most value.
Main responsibilities
* Develop and verify battery usage strategies based on identified ageing mechanisms, life test data, customer analysis and field data
* Main cell supplier contact responsible for the cell design requirements
* Owner of the performance and life tests on cell, module and system level
* Support the CAE team with input to performance and life estimation models
* Support the project in all cell, battery usage and durability related discussions
Required qualifications
* PhD or at least Master degree in Chemistry, Material science or equivalent
* Competence of Li-ion and/or related battery technologies
* 3-5 years' experience from battery cell production is a merit
* Previous experience or knowledge from automotive industry
* Experience in Volvo Production Development System (VPDS) process is beneficial
* Previous experience from product development, project work or team leading roles are desirable
* Fluent in English (written and spoken)
* Driver's license "B"
