hela Sverige Respiratory is one of AstraZeneca's main therapy areas. Our aim is to transform asthma and COPD treatment through inhaled combinations at the core of care, biologics for the unmet needs of specific patient populations, and scientific advancements in disease modification.
From a research perspective we work to understand, treat, modify and ultimately cure respiratory disease with an emphasis on four diseases with significant unmet medical need; asthma, COPD, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and Chronic Cough.
To further strengthen our expertise and capacity in each of these strategic research areas we are recruiting world-class scientists.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
We are currently looking for an innovative and highly motivated scientist to join our Bioscience Department. We expect you to be an experienced lab-based bioscientist, also being able to design and develop experimental strategies. Furthermore, this role is an opportunity for you to bring significant contribution to the progression of drug discovery projects, identification of new targets and publishable scientific insights.
Accountabilities and responsibilities:
* Drive discovery research activities to build the scientific knowledge and innovative technologies within the respiratory diseases
* Generate data and hypothesis to secure project deliveries to define milestones and timelines
* Identify new biological pathways driving the development of human respiratory diseases
* Act as an effective and creative team member in supporting projects to meet their objectives
* Write peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and patents
* Participate in external collaborations
* Provide scientific leadership and mentorship to junior scientists
* Work actively to anticipate and remove obstacles for oneself and others
* Enable excellent collaboration.
* Apply a broad perspective and actively seek collaborations to develop solutions
* Able to communicate in an engaging and inspiring way.
* Understand business strategy and link to team objectives
* Respect others and integrate diverse views
* Support smart risk taking
Essential Requirements
* PhD in a relevant area or equivalent expertise
* Post-doctoral training
* Deep understanding and practical experience in designing, performing and evaluating in vitro experiments
* Experience in quantification and profiling of proteins in complex tissue samples
* Excellent team playing and communication skills and ability to operate effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
* Experience in respiratory diseases, basic pharmacology and biochemistry to support departmental remit
* Ability to independently drive and develop a scientific area to benefit the departmental remit
Desirable requirements
* A strong record of high quality publications and experience in presenting research to the international scientific community
* Experience in pharmaceutical R&D
* Experience in handling and characterizing airway cells in vitro and/or in vivo
