Do you have expertise within biophysical and analytical characterisation of biomolecules and enjoy working in the lab? Would you like to apply your expertise in a cross-functional role at a company that are following the science and turn ideas into life changing medicines? Then you might be the one we are looking for!

We're recruiting three talented and motivated Analytical Scientists to join our New Modality Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) Analytics team within the Advanced Drug Delivery (ADD) function that is part of Pharmaceutical Sciences at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg.

Pharmaceutical Sciences is a department within our Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED) Biotech unit. The vision for Pharmaceutical Sciences is to deliver the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery, design of synthetic routes and manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). Our portfolio of projects spans traditional small molecules, proteins, oligonucleotides to RNA based therapeutics across AstraZeneca's therapy areas. ADD resides within Pharmaceutical Sciences with a mission to provide novel products to AstraZeneca's clinical pipeline.

As an Analytical Senior Scientist in the New Modality CMC Analytics team within ADD you will support and lead drug projects from an analytical perspective from candidate drug nomination over Phase 2a clinical trials. You will focus on advanced analytical characterisation of biomolecules such as oligonucleotides, mRNA and other molecules of high complexity. The roles cover development and validation of analytical methods for use in both preclinical and clinical phase (Phase 1/2a), contribution to CMC regulatory submissions as well as exploratory science initiatives inside and outside AstraZeneca.

Preferably, you should be experienced in biophysical and analytical characterisation of biomolecules as well as working in drug development projects in clinical phase. You should possess an enthusiasm for laboratory based work and an ability to utilise scientific and innovative thinking. You will work in close collaboration with other analysts, formulators, chemists and biologists at AstraZeneca in Sweden and UK.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop and validate appropriate analytical methodologies and specifications for biomolecules and other complex molecules/delivery systems, supporting projects in preclinical and clinical phase.
• Generate, assess and report data with a clear understanding of its reliability, interpret findings and draw authoritative conclusions and recommendations so that their significance can be appreciated.
• Prepare documentation and formal reports in accordance with current standards and where appropriate to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Generate CMC documents for regulatory submissions or enquiries.
• Maintain knowledge of the regulatory and compliance guidelines as related to the role.
• Apply technical knowledge to drug projects and the evaluation of new technology/processes. Collaboration with specialist scientific and/or technology networks.
• May supervise co-workers and contribute to their training and development by acting as coach/mentor.
• Working as a member of cross-functional pharmaceutical project teams, with a large degree of independence representing own group and area of expertise.
Essential Requirements
• MSc degree in a scientific area relevant to characterisation of biomolecules and/or molecules of high complexity (e.g., Analytical chemistry or Biotechnology).
• Experience in resolving complex analytical issues related to pharmaceuticals or equivalent molecules (e.g., by using mass spectrometry, separation techniques and other biophysical/chemical characterisation techniques).
• Thorough understanding of GMP and regulatory requirements for pharmaceuticals.
• Ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing.

Desirable Requirements
• Ph.D degree or 5+ years of experience in a scientific area relevant to characterisation of biomolecules, molecules of high complexity and/or complex delivery systems.
• Industrial experience in clinical analytical method development of biomolecules and/or complex delivery systems, including contribution to authoring CMC regulatory submissions.
• Expertise in analysis of nucleotide based therapeutics.
• Experience of different formulation systems/matrixes that may need different sample preparation techniques.
• An interest in bioassays and intracellular drug delivery.
