www.esab.com As a main group in Global R&D Filler Metals, Research Center has a key role in achieving successful product development. It is done through research, method and tool development, advanced analysis work, welding, pilot production as well as customer support. The Research Center organization is designed to provide both short term solutions and long term know-how within welding metallurgy and welding applications/processes.
The research team is a group within ESAB Research Center and is mainly focused on conducting research and developing methods and tools in order to acquire fundamental knowledge for a sustainable development. The team includes researchers with competence in welding metallurgy, physics, chemistry, welding processes and material mechanics.
The welding process laboratory is mainly focused on characterization of welding process variables and plasma. The laboratory make use of advanced measurement technology such as high speed camera, light spectroscopy and laser scanning.

As a Welding Process Researcher you:
• Are responsible for the Welding Process Characterization laboratory, including equipment maintenance.
• Make innovative contributions by initiating, leading and supporting research as well as methods /tools development projects in line with the ESAB product strategy.
• Analyze the welding processes and incorporate the results in product development.
• Report results in a clear and concise manner.
• Work in close cooperation with other members of the research team as well as several stake holders within R&D Filler Metals.
• Participate in shaping the activities in the research team.
• Keep up to date with state of the art knowledge in the area of competence.
• Evaluate, recommend and liaise with industry and academic collaborative groups engaged in the required areas of expertise for the Research Center.
Who are you?
You have at least 5 years of documented experience in managing experimental research projects. We believe that you have a PhD or a Master degree in engineering physics, physics, materials science, metallurgy or closely related fields. You have experience in programing, for example data analysis using software like MATLAB. Knowledge on plasma physics, welding, laser technology and high speed imaging techniques are meriting. You are a team player with strong collaboration skills. You are comfortable communicating within the research team as well as across the organization's key stakeholders. You are open minded and innovative with strong driving force.
You use analysis, evaluation, inference and deductive reasoning to process and resolve issues in a timely manner. You are proficient in both written and verbal communications in English and preferably in Swedish with ability to effectively interface with both internal and external customers.
The position is placed in Gothenburg, Sweden. Occasional traveling is required.
