30 credits - Investigate the advantages and disadvantages with Software keys verses Hardware keys for access in Vehicle Diagnose Tool

Thesis project at Scania is an excellent way of making contacts for your future working life. Many of our current employees started their career with a thesis project.

Background:
Vehicle Service Information offer an opportunity to perform a master thesis within the service area. Vehicle Diagnose Tool, Scania Diagnose and Programmer 3 (SDP3) is the application that workshops use for searching fault codes, do adjustment and ECU updates on the vehicle. Today Scania workshops uses a hardware key to access SDP3. The key has different levels. One for the workshops, one for bus, one for OEM etc. For Scania Repair and Maintenance Information (RMI) Costumers a solution with a software key is used. A RMI costumer is not a Scania Workshop it is an independent workshop that repairs all brands. A project is running in development to be able to offer Scania workshops a software key.

Target:
What are the advantages disadvantages with Hardware key verses Software key? Consider all Scania costumers. Workshops, Independent workshops, OEM costumer, Scania R&D etc, costs, technical issues.

Assignment:
The assignment is to investigate the advantages and disadvantages for the software and the hardware key including technical aspect, usage and prices for all Scania costumers and Scania CV AB.

Education:
Specify education or specialisation: Preferably Graduate Master of Science Engineer with specialisation on IT/data, system architecture, system managing/system science etc. (180 or 240 credits)
Swedish or English speaking, but preferable the Master thesis will be written in English
Personal skills: Preferably cooperative, take power of initiative, positive, take an interest in the work and open minded.
Number of students: 1-2
Start date: September 2015 or as agreed
Estimated time needed: 20 weeks
