Technical Expert - Seat Belt & Child Safety Restraints

Volvo Car Group is now taking a strategic step to strengthen the implementation of strategies for technological leadership through the Technical Specialist Program, which purpose is to develop a strong technical workforce dedicated to innovation, product excellence and continuous improvement of core processes.

As Technical Expert - Seat Belt & Child Safety Restraints you will be a member of the section Restraints. The section consists of the groups Seat Belt & Child Restraints, Steering Wheels & Frontal Restraint Systems and Side, Rear & Rollover Restraints and we are responsible for development of all interior safety systems.

As Technical Expert you will be responsible for the long term knowledge and development of your area within R&D. You will keep a close contact with universities and participate in seminars and conferences outside the company. You have the opportunity to act as a mentor for diploma workers and as industrial supervisor for PhD students. As a technical expert, with competence, vision and leadership, you will secure right measurement technology for R&D needs.

Main responsibilities

• Be an expert and ambassador for Seat Belt and Child Restraint technologies and knowledge area
• Deliver vision, strategy and benchmark within the Technical Expert area
• Support projects with technical input to choose robust concepts
• Develop long term component technology strategies for Child Restraints and Seat Belt components and align strategies with interfacing parts
• Perform industry benchmarks on Child Restraints and Seat Belt systems and interfacing systems
• Be a chairman of the Child Safety design review meeting for strategic and operational items
• Lead our supplier development in the direction of our future needs
• Develop requirements and guidelines to support robust system choices
• Develop physical and virtual test methods to ensure a leading working methodology for Seat Belt development
• Maintain and develop the advanced engineering portfolio on component level
• Guide development of interfacing parts to achieve a high level of robustness on the system
• Support interfacing component areas with expertise with regards to Seat Belt integration
• Attend at relevant restraints conferences and events to enhance knowledge and networking

Required qualifications

• M.Sc. or PhD degree
• Minimum 10 years of working experience within the passive safety area, preferred experience in Seat Belt or Child Restraint engineering
• A record of delivery in multiple programs in advanced engineering and/or concept development
• Expertise in the relevant area and/or its interfacing areas
• Working knowledge of interfacing systems to enable system optimisation
• Demonstrated leadership and personal contribution in defining, developing and roll-out of technologies
• Long experience and maturity as leader or manager
• Demonstrated capability and willingness to teach and document technical knowledge
• Driver's license (B)
• Excellent English skills, spoken and written
