Structural CAE Engineer - Traction Batteries at EPS

The department Electric Propulsion System (EPS) is responsible for development of High Voltage (HV) System design, Traction Batteries, Electric Machines, Inverters, Power supplies and On-Board Chargers, i.e. all major parts of hybrid and electric systems. In our group you will develop battery climatization in a young team that is eager to electrify our brand in a broad effort with Plug-In Hybrids (PHEVs) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). The company target is to electrify 10% of the cars in 2020. This is a wonderful challenge on a journey that has only begun, and we now need to re-enforce our SFR team to achieve the vision.

As Structural CAE Engineer for Traction Batteries, you will develop simulations methods for traction batteries and validate the models in our battery lab. You will also use those models, by running simulations for development projects. We at EPS are now investing heavily in developing our analysis operations for traction batteries in terms of both simulations and through developing our battery lab. Your responsibilities will include development of simulation methods for all the structural parts of batteries in close cooperation with battery cell and battery life experts, thermal and power electronics CAE engineers. The analysis of traction batteries grow fast and challenges both VCC, battery suppliers and our OEM competitors. You will utilize the methods developed in the growing number of BEV and PHEV projects, in close contact with design engineers for many upcoming. Interactions with colleagues, both within EPS and with other units within R&D or external organizations, are important.

Main responsibilities

• Develop simulation methods and tools for structural simulations of traction batteries
• Perform tests and analyse results for simulation models developed
• Utilize the above to dimension traction batteries
• Create technical documentation
• Collaborate within EPS and other R&D departments like body in white, safety and NVH
• Coordinate external work e.g. with suppliers or technical institutions

Required qualifications

• Master degree in Mechanical Engineering with focus on applied mechanics
• At least 5 years work experience within the field
• Previous experience with structural simulations
• Strong analytical abilities, since job requires ingenuity and creativity
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
• Driver's license B

• Broad vehicle interest and knowledge, especially in vehicle electrification
