SIS Sports Association Head Coach time allotment: 30 % FTE for administrative work (with a possibility of additional coaching through Sports Association)
Description / Purpose:
The Stockholm International School is an international school in a Swedish environment. As a way to enhance the offering we can give to the school community, we want to give our students the chance to train and compete for the school, fostering unity and comradeship. To serve this aim, we are looking for a suitable candidate.
The SIS Sports Association Head Coach has a key role in liaising with the SIS Sports Association. During the Summer of 2016, a formal Sports Association (Skolidrottsförening) will be set up. At the start, it will focus on soccer and basketball, fielding Senior (Grade 9-12) and Junior (Grade 6-8) boys and girls teams.
The entity will be strongly supported by the school, but has its own financial accounts. The Head Coach will be employed by the School but a major part of your work will be directed and supported through the Sports Association. The main goal of the role is to develop a training and competition structure that will allow SIS students to take part in regular trainings and competitions including several tournaments as part of a competitive team.
Duties / Responsibilities
Team and Coaching Management
1) Inspire and recruit SIS students to participate in the Sports Association programme
2) Inspire and recruit SIS students to participate in the Nordic Network tournaments as well as other tournaments that we choose.
3) Work with both the School and the Sports Association to ensure that students and parents receive a consistent message with regards to extracurricular sports offer.
4) Manage scheduling of practices including facilities, transportation, coaching, etc.
5) Manage scheduling of competitions/games and tournaments
6) Manage all required equipment and uniforms (purchase, repair, replace, etc.)
7) Identify appropriate coaching staff for each team to include contracts with external entities (i.e. AIK)
8) Develop and communicate SIS coaching guidelines and expectations
9) In cooperation with the SIS Security Manager and the Sports Association, develop and manage risk and safety programs per school expectations and ?industry best practices?, and implement together with the Sports Association.
10) As Head Coach of the SIS Sports Association - discuss, evaluate and propose new sports and related activities for future; implement publicity and communications: website, team communications, student and parent community support; evaluate and recommend opportunities for additional funding & support (i.e. Swedish Sports System); evaluate and recommend new opportunities for student athletes (i.e. international tournaments)
Budget
1) Manage and report your activities within the Sports Association budget
2) Proactively identify opportunities to reduce expenses where possible
3) Negotiate and execute contracts as required to support Sports Association activities
QUALIFICATIONS, ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience and strong interest in working with young athletes and organising sporting events/teams, preferably with an (ongoing) academic education in the athletic field.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Proficient written and spoken English.
Good working knowledge of Swedish.
Coaching experience in soccer, basketball or floorball is a plus
