We are looking for a clinician or pharmacist with extensive pharmacovigilance experience to join our multi-disciplinary team, to advance the science of pharmacovigilance.
The main focus of this position is to provide expertise in the pharmaceutical, medical, and methodological aspects of pharmacovigilance in multidisciplinary teams conducting research in pharmacovigilance method development and evaluation. You will assume responsibility for tasks of significant scope, complexity, and uncertainty, across multiple areas of work.
What you will do
- Lead, or participate in, scientific development and analysis for pharmacovigilance
- Participate in the scientific development and evaluation of methods to analyse individual case safety reports, electronic health records, medical literature, etc
- Contribute medical and/or pharmaceutical expertise in all phases of scientific projects, from identification of research questions to dissemination of results, e.g., reports, scientific articles, abstracts, posters, and presentations
- Work closely with a dedicated team of data scientists, pharmacists, medical doctors, and medical informaticians in multidisciplinary and interdependent teams
- Provide pharmacovigilance expertise internally and externally
- External monitoring of pharmacovigilance science developments around the world
We are looking for someone with a MSc or MD in Pharmacy, Medicine or Nursing , who has experience in
- pharmacovigilance signal detection and assessment
- scientific development and scientific writing, and is fluent in written and spoken English
It's also a plus if you have:
- a PhD in Pharmacy, Medicine or Nursing
- experience of spontaneous reporting systems and processing beyond signal analysis, such as duplicate detection, coding etc.
- experience of longitudinal observational data

Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is a centre for international service and scientific research in the field of pharmacovigilance. We are the WHO Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring, and manage the technical and operational aspects of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring since 1978.
As an independent, non-profit foundation, we support the World Health Organization, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders who share our vision of advancing medicines safety.
