The Air Cleaner and Fan System team is a development center, which means that we are responsible for developing solutions in the areas of air cleaners and fan systems for the Volvo Group truck business globally.

The development center responsibility includes definition of global technology strategies in these areas, as well as the complete development from early technology development to maintenance of parts and systems introduced on Volvo Group trucks around the world.

Job Description
As a senior design engineer for fan systems working in the development center team you will be a member of a highly qualified team who are the technical experts on the cooling fan components, while having excellent knowledge of the cooling fan installation as a whole including its performance. The field of work is very wide and spans over all truck applications in the Volvo group. Our mission is to deliver cooling fan system solutions which meet the requirements set by the projects. The daily work includes capturing and sharing knowledge with the global organization.

You will be working in a very international environment in cross functional teams with both colleagues and suppliers worldwide. A large part of the development is done with a high degree of supplier involvement, and in your role it is included to work together with the suppliers to find the best solutions.

Main responsibilities:
• Cooling fan performance responsibility including setting the cooling air flow targets and analyse cooling fan solutions to give recommendations based on cooling air flow performance target fulfilment
• Analysis and breakdown of project prerequisites, time plans and targets
• Define, plan and follow-up verification and validation activities based on requirements
• Initiate development of simulation and test methods
• Initiate and lead early technology development tasks
• Continuous supplier dialogue including evaluation of proposals from suppliers
• Keep updated on market trends and supplier development
• Take the lead in quality investigations
• Document and spread learnings for future reference and knowledge reuse within the Volvo Group

Qualifications:
• MSc or PhD in fluid mechanics, mechanical engineering or other relevant engineering field
• Fluid mechanics knowledge
• Minimum three years engineering experience from development of fans or similar systems
• Knowledge of cooling system, powertrain or vehicle technology
• Experience from working in the automotive industry will be considered a strong merit
• Structured way of working and ability to plan complex tasks
• Self-driven with positive, global and problem solving mind-set
• Good communication skills
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken
