Join us for the opportunity to directly impact the success of some of the biggest newspapers in Norway and Sweden by improving the experience for millions of daily users.

You will be a key member in a highly dedicated and competent cross-functional team and continue building upon the proven founding bet: that automation and personalization increase how well our front pages perform and are substantial additions to the curation done manually by editors

The product you will be working with offers algorithms that enable our newsrooms to optimize the content offering on their front pages, combining data science and the expertise of front editors. The goal is to deliver front pages that give the users the most important news and that are also highly engaging!

What you will do
In Curate the data science work is multifaceted: you will be a data scientist, data analyst, and software engineer all at the same time. An important part of your job is about understanding and translating business needs into technical requirements and test hypotheses. You will work with the rest of the team and representatives from the newspapers to collaboratively improve our product offering, iteratively develop algorithms as well as ensuring we are tracking the right information to allow easy, precise analysis of the impact. You'll have the opportunity to work with everything from experiment design and in-depth analysis to general machine learning and natural language processing.

Factors that will be key to success:

- Understanding the interplay between user behaviour and the events we track as well as how we track them, then use that knowledge to further improve our front page optimizations
- Evaluating the potential of different hypotheses with offline evaluations and retrospective analysis
- Designing and evaluating A/B-tests as well as defining accurate evaluation metrics that will ensure we meet the set business objectives for Curate and our users
- Developing and improving on algorithms that will be used for optimizing the content with different business objectives in mind. This includes applying machine learning techniques as well as more advanced statistics (e.g. bayesian statistics solutions)
- Collaborating with data scientists and other stakeholders from the newspapers to ensure that we utilize their business knowledge and domain expertise
- Help evolve the methodology and tools available to Curate and Schibsted's data science community

We believe that you:

- Have previous experience working in the field of Data Science and/or a degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, Software Engineering or equivalent
- Have the ability to build and work with models with a user-centric mindset in order to better understand our users and how they interact with our front pages
- Are able to build and maintain relationships, and influence others. You're a good communicator that knows how to utilize cross-functional environments
- Are able to empathize with the challenges newsrooms are facing and can help them solve their problems by defining the appropriate data, analyses, or implementations
- Are able to write complex SQL queries to analyse vast amounts of data containing millions of users
- Have experience of using tools such as R or Python for analytical purposes as well as Git for source control
- Can inspire and mentor your team members and the data science community within Schibsted to expand their knowledge
- Have strong mathematical and statistical understanding of experimentation and non experimentation-based attribution methodologies

Place of work: You will join our office in either Stockholm, Oslo or Kraków. We can offer a hybrid workplace solution where you can choose to work from home 2-3 days a week and the other days from the office.
