hela Sverige Are you that type of data scientist that pays attention to your colour palette when you plot your data? Do you reliably customize the default themes to fit the use case? Are your plots impeccably consistent throughout a project? If this sound like you, we have the position for you!
At AstraZeneca we harness digital, data science & AI to fast-forward our research. Making sure the work born in a lab can make a real difference in the real world. Working here means thinking big, taking responsibility, and working together to deliver impact from our contributions that make the impossible a reality.
As we expand our operations within the data science domain, we have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Data Scientist at our vibrant AstraZeneca R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden. This position is located within the Data Sciences & Quantitative Biology department - a global, diverse and delivery focused department where we collaborate to support drug projects striving to impact patients' lives. In partnership with our experimentalist colleagues and other data scientists, we provide computational analysis and solutions to enable and improve output from our technical platforms driving our drug discovery efforts.
What you'll do
In this role, you'll be using modern data science tools, analytical thinking, and a sense of aesthetics; perhaps in equal parts. You will act as part of a larger team, passionate about developing and exploiting these graphs for various tasks within the scope of a general drug discovery pipeline.
Biomedical knowledge graphs contain extensive amounts of insights - aggregated and structured into a graph form. You will focus on the visual representation of these insights; creating a consistent visual language that speaks to the intuition, making complex relationships more comprehensible to a diverse group of scientists. How do we display a particular network or dataset, so that it is as accessible as possible to a wider audience? A riddle for your creative imagination and communication skills both!
You will work closely with graph data scientists and subject-matter experts (both wet-lab and bioinformatics), who will be happy to provide you with both cues and inquiries, to get started.
Who you are
Our team is a highly collaborative group of scientists, working in a constantly evolving technical and scientific landscape. We, therefore, expect you to have a passion for driving scientific questions and to be comfortable working at a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You can work independently and have a positive, result oriented and pragmatic attitude. You have excellent communication skills as well as a proactive and delivery-focused approach.
Essential for the role
* A PhD - or equivalent numbers of years of experience post-degree - in bioinformatics, or similar quantitative field
* Advanced programming skills in Python/R, as well as TypeScript/JavaScript
* Experience in working with data visualization, demonstrated with examples
Desirable for the role
* Experience with experimental biomedical (-omics) or clinical data
* Prior experience of using network visualization tools or visualization libraries (e.g. d3.js, cytoscape.js), alternatively prior experience with UI/UX design
* Familiarity with graph database technologies and query languages, in particular Neo4J & Cypher
* Experience in working with command-line tools, high performance computing and/or cloud compute environments
* Knowledge in writing scalable and reproducible code, especially in concert with version management via Git
* Prior experience of working with tools for reproducible code deployment (e.g. Docker/Singularity)
* Proven track record of publishing and/or presenting relevant analysis results and tools in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and other scientific proceedings
