Your opportunity
As a Rock Mechanics Engineer within Boliden's Mine Staff, you will have a role in ensuring safe and efficient mining operations across our sites. This position is based at our Boliden office and primarily supports Boliden area and the Kristineberg mine, with potential expansion to other mines. Regular, weekly travel to mining sites will be part of your work.
Who you will work with
You will be part of a dedicated Rock Mechanics team within the Mine Staff organization, collaborating closely with mine planning engineers, geology departments, production technology specialists and other technical service departments. Your work will also involve interaction with consultants and other technical experts across Boliden's operations. Although the team is geographically distributed, you will have regular opportunities for knowledge sharing and joint problem-solving in cross-functional projects. The rock mechanics team is composed of numerous geotechnical engineers, seniors and specialist from various nationalities which instils a unique, welcoming culture that caters for a thriving environment.
What you will do
Conduct geotechnical assessments and stability analyses for underground mining areas
Provide operational, on-site support to the technical service department in geotechnical matters
Monitor and evaluate ground conditions and implement appropriate rock support measures
Collect geotechnical data underground and maintain geotechnical database
Assist with numerical stress modelling to deliver and establish safe and efficient mine plans
Provide geotechnical support in short-term mine and budget design to LOMP risk assessments
Propose and oversee ground support in line with existing standard operating procedures and ground control management plans
Collaborate closely with mine planning, production teams, and external consultants
Participate in R&D projects and contribute to improving rock mechanics processes within the department and at site
Provide technical advice and facilitate cross-functional cooperation within the organization
Conduct geotechnical core logging in line with updating and maintaining geotechnical data models

What you bring

Education: BSc or higher in Mining Engineering, Rock Mechanics, Civil Engineering with Specialism in Mining, or Geotechnical Engineering
Experience: Previous experience in hard rock underground mining, preferably base metals
Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to explain complex concepts clearly and proficiency in relevant software. Comfortable working individually and in teams closely with others, discussing technical topics with both engineers and non-engineers and contributing to joint decisions in a team environment.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Swedish, or willingness and ability to learn Swedish quickly
Driver's License: Valid B-class license

It's an advantage if you have experience in project work, facilitating collaboration and working in dynamic environments with changing priorities.
