The Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology moved into the premises adjacent to the partner department and together have developed a close and successful collaboration on research issues, technology platforms, and training of master's and doctoral level students. The international element within UPSC is large, with over 40 nationalities represented.
The department conducts introductory and advanced training in plant physiology, ecophysiology, plant molecular biology, forest genetics and forest biotechnology within the Forestry program and at the master level.

There are about 180 persons from 40 different countries working at UPSC. Umeå is a vibrant university town and the cultural capital of northern Sweden with good access to Stockholm and the rest of the world. Umeå also provides close access to outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, kayaking, etc.
Duties:
Dissection of hook formation in plants. Most organisms integrate environmental and endogenous stimuli via various signaling pathways that induce developmental responses. This is especially important in plants because of their sessile life style and their capacity to grow continuously and adapt their architecture according to the environmental conditions.
The long-term goal of our research is to understand the signaling mechanisms regulating plant growth and development (
https://www.upsc.se/stephanie_robert).This project aims to better understand the signaling controlling differential cell growth occurring during apical hook development. The candidate postdoc fellow will aim at dissecting the modes of action of several phytohormones in this process.
Qualifications:
The position is of two years duration. Applicants require a doctoral degree in molecular, cell or developmental biology. Furthermore, applicants should be proficient in English and should have the ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with others.
