The Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences (NJ) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences seeks a bioinformatician who will support research projects linked to several successful research groups at SLU.
The current position is part of SLU's Bioinformatics Infrastructure, involving all four faculties with several centrally coordinated bioinformatics positions. The person will be working with researchers in various subject areas at the NJ faculty, and will be in constant interaction with the other bioinformaticians of the infrastructure. He/She will also be interacting with the National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden (NBIS) and will, in collaboration with NBIS experts, give national support. At the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences we conduct a wide range of research and academic teaching related to the sustainable use of land, water and biological natural resources
Duties:
The successful candidate will provide bioinformatics support and training for researchers at the NJ faculty. Duties include developing and implementing tools and resources for the research community, taking part in knowledge transfer and training of researchers at SLU and maintain and install the necessary software/hardware needed for giving bioinformatics support.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have an MSc/PhD or equivalent in Bioinformatics with relevant skills in i) high-throughput sequencing (NGS) data analysis, RNA-Seq, metagenomics and DNA barcoding and providing software solutions, database design and/or implementation of user interfaces. The candidate must have excellent skills in data handling and master one or more scripting languages (e.g. Python, Perl, R). Experience of database handling and Unix system administration is essential. Knowledge in statistics is highly beneficial. Excellent proficiency in English is required, as English is the working language in many research groups. The candidate will interact with a large variety of colleagues with different scientific backgrounds and therefore must therefore have excellent communication skills. Apart from the formal qualifications, importance will be placed on pedagogic skill and personal suitability.
