What you'll do
Right now, we are looking for a Refractory Lead within our Refractory operation within the meltshop. In this role you will report to our Refractory Manager Tommy Almqvist. The team is responsible for overseeing all refractory activities in the Meltshop area, including EAF, LMF, RH, and Caster. We will have two refractory leads hired within this area, one of which is already hired and we're now recruiting for the second lead. You'll support each other within the daily work and will divide the responsibilites between each other.
This role involves managing day-to-day refractory operations, ensuring that refractory processes and equipment function efficiently and safely. As a Refractory Lead you'll support the Refractory Manager in teaching and mentoring the personnel within the refractory in best performance and practices, overseeing and guiding within maintenance schedules and making sure the operation is running as intended.
Here are some of the day-to-day responsibilities within the role of the Refractory Lead:
Teach and mentor new employees in the refractory area in how to install different refractory objects and support them in growing into their respective refractory operator roles.
Support in troubleshooting and repair in EAF, LMF, RH and Caster area.
Support the Refractory Manager in coordinating maintenance and training activities and collaborate with other areas for production and automation teams.
Ensure that refractory safety standards and regulations are followed and met, support in conducting risk assessments and work descriptions.
Assisting the refractory manager in building an effective team that collaborates and has high effectiveness in operations within a multicultural work environment.
Assist Refractory manager in interactions with vendors and suppliers.
Maintain a safe environment, assist production and quality goals and lower refractory cost.
What we're looking for
We're looking for a refractory lead who is very hands-on and practically well versed into the daily refractory operations. Our ideal candidate is someone who has been working as an operator or lead with the main focus on being part of the installation and repair within refractories. This position is ideal for either someone who has been working as an operator and want to step into a more senior role with more of a leadership role, or a person who already is a manager/leader within refractories.
The responsibilities of this role consists of:
Significant experience within refractory operations
Hands-on experience and high skill within refractory installation and repair with precision and efficiency.
Strong knowledge of safety protocols in heavy industrial environments.
Familiar with different kinds of refractories.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills in a multicultural work setting
Ability to read blueprints.

You provide clear and inclusive communication across multicultural teams and with stakeholders, including vendors and contractors. You're comfortable working in dynamic environments, handling varying operational demands, and adjusting strategies to meet production goals. You are detail-oriented in ensuring safety standards, managing inventory, and performing accurate installations to support efficient and safe operations.
