Your Day-To-Day

The Nuclear Fuel Methods & Technology team in Västerås, Sweden is responsible for the development of engineering analysis methods and software tools for modeling, evaluation, prediction, and optimization of existing and future fuel and core designs for Light Water Reactors, with focus on BWR and VVER plants. These analyses cover thermo-mechanical fuel rod behavior, neutron and core physics, and thermo-hydraulics. The team is also engaged in the development of technologies for new fuel concepts, as well as the support for the licensing of fuel and core analysis methods.

Computer codes being developed within the group include the 2D fuel assembly neutronics code PHOENIX, the 3D core nodal code POLCA, the 3D plant systems code POLCA-T for reactor dynamics and stability analysis, and the 1.5D fuel rod performance code STAV. The new position focuses on reactor physics, with special emphasis on the POLCA and POLCA-T codes, and the field of work includes all steps from theoretical models and analysis methods development, via implementation in the codes, to their qualification and documentation.

The Nuclear Fuel Methods & Technology team is part of the Digital & Innovation (D&I) - Sweden unit, which today consists of 17 persons, originating from seven different countries.
