A core technology expert leads activities to improve core performance, core steel utilization, and in general to improve know-how in the field of cores and magnetism. The role will work in close cooperation with experts in core steel quality and supply chain management as well as with transformer design specialists.
Your responsibilities
Magnetic simulations and calculations: Perform simulations and calculations to predict core performance. The approaches used include FEM, grid or circuit simulations, analytical modeling, and machine-learning or big data methods.
Grade testing: Propose and lead testing of new grades of core steel with an aim to improve core performance. This includes supervising lab testing, devising test protocols, working with designers to recommend design changes, and keeping up to date with the latest advances in electrical steel.
Product development: Propose improvements to the core and to core steel utilization and perform experiments to validate those improvements.
Technical standards: Ensure that core-related processes and calculation methods are state of the art. Work with programmers to implement and test new methods in the design software.
Technical support: Support the quality and supply chain organizations with technical expertise to ensure that technical requirements are fulfilled.
Technical leadership and knowledge sharing: Coach and provide support and technical advice to colleagues on core-related topics. Maintain a network of engineering professionals to share best practices across different disciplines and locations.
University liaisons: Coordinate and lead joint studies with universities to get access to state-of-the-art research.
Your background
You have a background in electrical engineering, electrotechnology or applied/theoretical physics. Preferably you hold a PhD, but a MSc combined with work-life experience is seen as equivalent
You have sound analytical skills, including simulation tools and preferably have experience in designing and conducting experiments
You have the interest and ability to work with cross-competence topics
You are a team player who enjoys collaborating with others to achieve great results
Preferably you also have experience in, or ability to develop, project management and technical leadership skills
You have good communication skills and are fluent in English, both written and spoken.
You will work in dynamic, motivated, and creative teams with a wide range of experience and competence. Through your research and development projects you will become part of global community that will shape and help you to develop your career into a technical or managerial leader!
