The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as disease ecology.

Work description
We seek a highly motivated and skilled field and laboratory assistant for work within multiple projects in the research group Marine Plankton Ecology and Applications. You will work in close collaboration with researchers and PhD students in several research projects. Tasks will include participation in on-going experimental work at the department and at large-scale algal cultivation sites. Field work includes sampling physical and biological parameters. Laboratory work includes performing water chemistry and biochemical analysis on plankton and water material, and optimization of methods. Work duties also include the management of large-scale algal production systems in collaboration with the industry, providing demonstrations and writing technical reports. The position involves working on several projects at the same time, working with and providing support for a number of people including trainees and students.The research will be conducted in collaboration with other scientist within the Centre for Ecology and Evolution in Microbial model Systems (EEMiS) within Linnaeus University that comprises expertise in ecology, evolution, and microbiology.

The position is a temporary position (substitution) of 9 months full time and located in Kalmar.

Entry requirements

A person fulfils the general entry requirements if he/she

• has been awarded a MSc in Aquatic Ecology, Marine Biology, Biotechnology or other closely related fields.
• documented experience of field sampling
• documented experience of phytoplankton ecology and microbial solutions cleaning waste streams
• documented experience of independently conducting research projects.
• very high proficiency in written and spoken English.
• well-spoken Swedish
• B-drivers licence

Other assessment grounds

• Important personal qualities are to be a creative critical thinker, good at problem-solving, a team-worker, resilient, and structured.
• Experience of writing scientific reports or articles is desired.
• Experience of large-scale algal cultivation
• Experience of biochemical analysis of algal biomass
