Researchers at the Institute ofNeuroscience and Physiology at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg conduct research and education spanning a wide range of topics from molecules to humans. The Institute has five departments: pharmacology, physiology, health and rehabilitation medicine, clinical neuroscience, and psychiatry and neurochemistry.

Subject area description
Forensic psychiatry is a psychiatric specialty focusing on the relationship between psychiatric disease and crime, as well as associated fields of forensic psychiatric examinations and treatment in prison and probation service.
Duties
The successful applicant conducts research in forensic psychiatry, in particular research focused on treatment and evaluation in forensic psychiatry, at a leading national and international level. She or he is also expected to apply for national and international research grants.
The position involves supervision of students at PhD and other levels, as well as teaching at both basic and advanced levels in forensic psychiatry. Development of the teaching curriculum in forensic psychiatry is also expected.
Consultation, mentoring and participation in planning, coordination and leadership activities at Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the National Board ofForensic Medicine are also included among the job assignments.
The professor is expected to facilitate and develop forensic psychiatry research at the Centre for Ethics, Law and Mental Health (CELAM) and lead the centre together with its senior researchers. CELAM conducts, supports, and disseminates research about mental disorders, aggressive behaviour, and moral and legal responsibility in an inter-disciplinary framework.
The professor shall interact with Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the National Board of Forensic Medicine, and other relevant actors in the field, as well as with the society at large, and participate in outreach activities and other events/projects aimed at popularising the science and inform on what research is being conducted.
Eligibility
The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg. To be eligible for an appointment as professor, the applicant must possess both scientific and pedagogical skills.
The employment is combined with an employment as a specialist in forensic psychiatry at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital. The applicant must have a medical licence with specialist competence in forensic psychiatry. The applicant must demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Danish or Norwegian necessary to obtain a Swedish Medical Licence.
According to the Higher Education Act, Chapter 3, Section 8, joint employment may only be held by a person who meets the eligibility requirements for all three positions.
Assessment criteria
Assessment criteria for employment as a teacher are stated in Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.
When assessing the applications, equal importance will be given to scientific and pedagogical skills of importance for the subject.
When assessing scientific skills special emphasis will be placed on research efforts within forensic psychiatry and the quality and originality of the scientific research efforts, the ability to obtain research funding, ability to develop and lead staff, attract PhD-students and researchers, and scientific supervision.
When assessing pedagogical skills emphasis will be placed on experience of teaching, examination, supervision, course development and course leadership at undergraduate, advanced and postgraduate levels within the subject of forensic psychiatry. Skills must be documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of the pedagogical educational activities. To enable assessment of the quality of the pedagogical activities the skills must be well documented.
Clinical proficiency will be assessed based on the applicant' s competence and clinical independency as a forensic psychiatrist.
Documented ability to develop and lead personnel, attract PhD-students and researchers are also important tasks to be considered, as well as administrative ability to plan, organise and develop the organisation, ability to cooperate and collaborate with the surrounding community.
