You'll be part of Oral Product Development and a delivery focused team where we collaborate to support drug development projects with the goal to impact patients' lives. We focus on the design and development of commercial products and processes and contribute to new product introductions and continuous improvement of launched products. We're developing a wide range of products including e.g. immediate release and controlled release oral dosage forms and applying a variety of manufacturing methods, including continuous manufacturing technologies. To meet the future needs of our portfolio, the introduction of new science and technology are key elements, and modeling and simulation needs to be integrated and a part of our daily work.
This role is based at AstraZeneca's R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden.
What you'll do
This position will give you the opportunity to work in a dynamic and enthusiastic atmosphere, whilst developing and delivering Pharmaceutical Engineering science and support to projects. You will work closely with a team of colleagues in a multi-skilled environment to design, develop and deliver high quality clinical and commercial formulations and processes, using your understanding of existing and new innovative Product and Process technologies.
Continuous improvement will be at the core of everything you do, and you will drive the strategy in the pharmaceutical engineering area to ensure that our department, will be in the frontline of emerging technologies and tools, including digital transformation. This position will give you the chance to a high level of interactive communication, to set clear direction for the department and the development projects, advising others at a high level, as well as dealing with cultural sensitivity.
Examples of typical tasks:

Serve as a senior expert within Oral Product Development and mentor colleagues in the area of Pharmaceutical Engineering, emphasizing patient centric product design and excellence in transforming development to commercial manufacturing capability.
*
Passionately drive the scientific knowledge synergy of product design and manufacturing technology, to implement key science, for example continuous manufacturing of drug product. Take responsibility for the quality, reputation, communication and delivery of science in cross-functional teams delivering drug projects.
*
Provide strategic direction and advice on new science and technology within the scientific area of Product and Process Design, to take part in tech transfer of manufacturing methods and give consultation to internal and external parties, including medical authorities.
*
Continue to develop and drive scientific excellence in the area of Pharmaceutical Engineering within the company as well as with world leading universities, scientific organizations and other industrial partners. Also, to provide disciplinary scientific leadership, coaching and mentorship for less experienced scientists.

Contribute to regulatory documentation and submissions, applying your understanding of drug development and relevant requirements from medical authorities.
Essential for the role
Our team is a highly collaborative group, working to tight delivery schedules, so the ability to be comfortable working at a fast, goal-oriented pace, with a team focused approach is crucial to be successful in the role. Furthermore, we believe that you have you excellent communication and networking skills and operate confidently and collaboratively with an integrating mind-set.
We also believe you have:

A PhD within Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy or similar discipline, ideally with specialism in an area relevant to pharmaceutical engineering and design.
*
A good understanding of theoretical and experimental approaches based on physicochemical engineering and digital design, with emphasis on solids processes. Experience in developing and using modelling & simulation tools, multivariate analysis and chemometrics to enhance the pharmaceutical engineering science arena.
*
Experience of developing creative and robust commercial formulations and manufacturing processes with successful collaboration with other scientific disciplines and commercial manufacturing sites and of the regulatory arena of pharmaceutical products and manufacturing processes.
*
Track record of scientific excellence and externally recognized expertise in product and process engineering with a strong and sustained publication record in this area, for example publications, patents, conference presentations.
