A postdoctoral researcher position for microstructure investigation of structural heterogeneities at the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry, Stockholm University,
Ref number SU 619-0906-12. Deadline for applications: 2 May 2012

Subject area
Transmission electron microscopy study of novel materials
The Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry, Stockholm University is one of the leading departments in inorganic materials chemistry and structural characterization (www.mmk.su.se). We seek a post-doctoral scientist to perform electron microscopic investigation of the structural heterogeneities of polycrystalline materials and to develop corresponding analytical methodologies. The recruited candidate will work in a research group having strong on-going research activities on developing materials with tailored chemical and structural heterogeneities. Two new sintering techniques, namely Spark Plasma Sintering and Laser Sintering, are applied in the group as routine prototype engineering tools for generating tailored microstructures demanded for fundamental studies of the correlation between materials microstructure and properties.

Eligibility
The applicant should have a PhD in Chemistry or Physics or Materials Science and Engineering with a strong focus on electron microscopes. Hands-on experience in scanning electron microscopes and transmission electron microscopes is an advantage. The applicant needs to have a PhD not older than 3 years.

Selection criteria
The selection is based primarily on scientific excellence. Preference will be given to applicants with experience of using electron microscopes and relevant techniques for the study of inorganic materials.

Conditions of employment
The position is full time at the department of Materials and Environmental chemistry for one year with extension possibility of another year.

For more information, please contact Prof. James Shen, e-mail shen@mmk.su.se .

Union representatives are Anqi Lindblom-Ahlm (SACO) (SACO), Lisbeth Häggberg (Fackförbundet ST), telephone +46-(0)8-16 2000 (switch board), and Gunnar Stenberg (SEKO), telephone +46-(0)70-316 43 41.

Application
All applications (including a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae, copies of scientific degrees and transcripts of academic records (all attested) and the names and contact information of two references) received not later than 2 May 2012 will receive full consideration. The application should be submitted as one PDF-file.
