The Swedish Defence University is an internationally renowned university in the area of defence, crisis management and security. We offer a unique academic environment where military and civilian researchers, teachers and students interact. We educate and train top-level executives, experts, and researchers for the task of analyzing and managing current and future crises, security issues and conflicts. The university educates all military officers in the Swedish armed forces and leads the academic progression of the military profession. We conduct research in the areas of Law with a focus on International and Operational Law, Leadership and Command & Control, Military History, Political Science, Systems Science for Defence and Security and War Studies.
Subject Description
Leadership and Command & Control is the scientific study of leading, that is, the actions taken to direct, coordinate resources, and influence an individual or a group to achieve a common goal. The subject focuses on the individual, organizational, and interorganizational factors that contribute to the process of achieving common goals. The subject covers issues related to leadership and command and control theory, leadership development, collaboration, crisis management, design of command and control systems, team issues, stress, selection, and the meaning of difficult conditions.

This position is located with the department of Leadership and Command & Control (ILL) in Stockholm.

Project Description
The Department of Leadership and Command & Control (ILL) is recruiting a postdoc focussing on leadership and collaboration within total defence.

The position is part of a research project that focuses on how leadership and collaboration are practiced within the Swedish total defence system and in similar systems internationally. More specifically, the project focuses on the co-existence of leadership and collaboration and how they interact with different institutional and organizational contexts.

Duties
The primary duty is to contribute to the project's research by conducting both individual research and contributing to collaborative projects with the other participants in the project. The research tasks include disseminating knowledge by publishing scientific articles and presenting research results, e.g. at international conferences. The position includes up to 20% teaching.

Requirements
Applicants must:

• Have a doctoral degree, or a degree that is considered equivalent, in a field relevant to the project by the application date. Importance will be placed on the degree's relevance for the research project. Priority will be given to applicants who have received their doctoral degree no later than three years prior to the application date.
• Have the ability to independently conduct research within the project's research area.
• Have significant knowledge of the research topic. Familiarity with civil-military collaboration is desired.
• Be able to communicate research results outside academia.
• Have an advanced level of proficiency in English.

Great importance will be placed on personal competencies such as having good collaboration skills, being structured and analytical. As a person, you have high social skills and enjoy meeting new people and can also work independently, for example by conducting your own research within the research project's framework.

About the Employment
This is a temporary full-time position for a maximum of three years (set up as two plus one year depending on funding). Starting date as soon as possible and according to agreement.

Employment at the university may involve a security clearance according to the Security Protection Act (2018:55).

The employment may also involve wartime placement. If you are already placed in a wartime position in your current employment at an authority and your expertise is needed in the university's wartime organization, negotiations will take place between the relevant authority and the university regarding your placement.
