This position focuses on research related to the full recycling cycle of sodium-ion batteries. The work includes developing processes for the recovery of valuable elements, carrying out hydrometallurgical purification steps, and preparing recycled precursors for new battery materials. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to a field of growing relevance within sustainable energy systems.

Project overview

The postdoctoral researcher will develop and evaluate methods for recycling spent sodium-ion batteries. The work will involve experimental research in aqueous chemistry, with particular focus on leaching, crystallization, and synthesis of battery-relevant materials.

About the division and research groups

The position is placed within the Industrial Materials Recycling group, in collaboration with the Multiscale Inorganic Materials group, both part of the Division of Energy and Materials at Chalmers.

The two groups together comprise nine senior researchers and 27 PhD students and postdocs from over 14 countries. Their research focuses on sustainable materials solutions and spans recycling technologies (e.g., solvent extraction, high-temperature processes, and supercritical fluids), recovery of critical raw materials, and the synthesis of new materials from secondary sources.

More information about the research can be found here:
