A postdoctoral position in cancer biology is available at the Institute of Biomedicine, Department of Pathology and Genetics with placement in the Cancer Genomics group at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center. The research group is focused on identification and characterization of fusion oncogenes and other oncogenic driver mutations and their potential use as targets for new cancer therapy.
Subject area
Cancer Biology
Subject area description
Solid tumors and leukemias often develop as a result of chromosomal translocations and amplifications of oncogenic driver genes. The project aims to identify and study pharmaceutical drugs that can block the activity of these genes and thereby inhibit tumor growth and induce apoptosis. In addition, mechanisms of tumor development are studied by overexpression of the genes in different in vitro and in vivo model systems.
Job assignments
The work includes, but is not limited to, cell culture (incl. primary cell and sphere cultures), drug screening in vitro, cell based assays, gene expression analyses, RNAi, virus transduction, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, flow cytometry, and animal experiments (e.g. xenograft models). The successful candidate should be highly motivated and is expected to actively contribute scientifically to the research.
Eligibility
A doctoral degree (PhD) is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at the Universty of Gothenburg. The PhD shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give the candidate an opportunity to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a PhD degree not older than 3 years counting from the last date of application.
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Assessment
The successful candidate has extensive experience of cell culture, drug screening in vitro, and documented merits of animal experiments and independent research.
