Title: Single-molecule detection using membrane protein receptors embedded in cell-derived liposomes.
Post Doc Location: AstraZeneca R&D Mölndal, Sweden.
Description of Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Biophysicist to join the Discovery Science (Dx Science) department, a global organisation supporting all innovative Medicines Units (iMeds) within AstraZeneca. In collaboration with Chalmers university you will embark on a research project focusing on single-molecule detection of ligand binding events to membrane protein receptors by establishing and applying total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy. The work will initially investigate how to prepare membrane protein receptors for successful TIRF applications using well-studied GPCR systems. Based on this, methods for the extraction of affinity and kinetic data will be established using fluctuation analysis, which will be benchmarked employing a range of biophysical technologies including surface plasmon resonance (SPR). This important research will be based upon established approaches and will contribute to the development of a robust methodology to extract ligand binding information using membrane protein receptor targets.
Your scientific research will also give you the opportunity to work with (and influence) fellow scientists across many other disciplines. You will be expected to deliver the results of your novel research in-house via global working groups and externally via meetings and through publications.
