The school is located next to Stockholm Stadium and is Sweden's leading centre of knowledge for sport, physical activity and health. We educate teachers in sport and health, trainers, health pedagogs, sport managers, sport experts and researchers. GIH conducts sport science research, often in close collaboration with other universities and societal partners both nationally and internationally. At present, GIH has 140 employees and about 1000 students.
Project description
The project will focus on the effects of nutritional status and training state on whole body insulin action. Specifically, glucose tolerance tests will be performed before and after prolonged fasting, high fat diet, or training. Additionally, biochemical analyses of fiber type, enzyme activities and mitochondrial respiration in human muscle biopsies will be performed.
Duties and responsibilities
The primary task is to conduct high quality research that will generate publications in international journals. More specifically, the applicant will be involved and in some respects responsible for planning, preparing for, and executing research studies, included execution of biochemical analysis such as blood metabolites and hormones and muscle enzyme activities, metabolites and mitochondrial respiration, as well as analyzing data, writing scientific reports and presenting data at professional meetings and conferences. Some teaching may also be required.
Qualification requirements
In order to qualify for the position, the applicant shall have obtained a degree of doctor within the field of exercise physiology or a similar field. In order to be appointed to the position as a postdoctoral fellow, the requirements stated in the central collective agreement and protocol shall be fulfilled. In addition, the position requires ability to collaborate, and the other abilities and qualifications required are described in GIH's collaboration and leadership policy.
Assessment criteria
The following assessment criteria have been established for this position:
• scientific skill in sport and exercise science, specifically with a focus on muscle physiology and carbohydrate metabolism is very highly prioritized,
• competence in performing the physiological and biochemical measurements of significance in this project is very highly prioritized,
• statistical skills and computer literacy are very highly prioritized,
• success in publishing articles in international peer reviewed journals is very highly prioritized,
• experience in human exercise studies and studies of electrical stimulation is highly prioritized,
• fluent writing and speaking in English is highly prioritized,
• a good ability to collaborate with colleagues and personal appropriateness for the position are highly prioritized. The successful candidate will work carefully, have an overarching perspective, have analytical organizational and planning skills.
• experience of presenting research at international conferences is prioritized.
Duration/Working time
The position is a full-time post for the duration of two years. This appointment may be extended if special grounds exist in accordance with the central collective agreement (link above). Starting date is to be negotiated.
Salary
Salary is set on an individual basis.
