We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student with a passion for method development to join our research group at Chalmers. You will get to work on advancing the understanding of nanocellulose systems from a multiscale perspective in flow through working with or developing cutting edge rheological hyphenated techniques. Within the research group as well as withing the WWSC you will have numerous opportunities to expand the reach of your work through collaborations.

Information about the research/the project/the division
Wallenberg Wood Science Center (WWSC) is a research center striving for scientific excellence with a focus on new materials from trees. The center creates knowledge and builds competence for an innovative and sustainable future value creation from forest raw materials. WWSC is a multidisciplinary collaboration between KTH, Chalmers, and Linköping University. The base is a donation from Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, and the forest industry is supporting WWSC via the national platform Treesearch. This WWSC-project will be conducted in the Kádár Group of the Engineering Materials division focused on the Rheology and Processing of Soft Matter (www.rheo-chalmers.se).

Current research activities are centered around three topics:
(i) field-filler interactions in nanostructured soft matter systems
(ii) multifunctional properties in nanocomposites
(iii) advanced rheological characterization and method development. You can find more details about our group and activities at www.rheo-chalmers.se

Major responsibilities
Carrying out research will be your main responsibility. The research will be centered around advanced rheological characterization including method development, combining rheology with optics, and with X-ray scattering techniques. The work will include also bioprinting and understating how to tailor rheological properties for optimal printing. Approximately 15% of the your full time will be dedicated to teaching activities. In addition, you will be expected to take an active part in the group's lab organization duties. As a member of the Wallenberg Wood Science Center you will also have the opportunity to participate in the Wallenberg Wood Science Center Academy courses and activities, which take place at different locations in Sweden and the Nordic Countries.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have (or be in the process of obtaining) a Masters degree in chemical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering or equivalent. The employment will be conditional on obtaining the masters degree prioir to the start of the contract. Any experience with rheology, optics, bioprinting, nanocellulose or X-Ray scattering techniques will be considered meritorious.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of 4.5-5 years, depending on the amount of teaching and departmental work you do during your doctoral project.
