The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg is the largest mathematics department in Sweden, with around 200 dedicated employees. Contract terms and what we offer
• The PhD-positions are fully funded from start

• As a PhD student, you will be enrolled in a graduate program at the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Please, read more about our graduate program here.
• The position is limited to four years, with the possibility to teach up to 20%, which extends the position to five years.
• A dynamic and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg. Gothenburg.
• A starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month (valid from May 25, 2025).

About the project
We welcome projects in diverse and exciting areas, including mathematical analysis, mathematical physics, and probability theory, and encourage candidates to share their ideas and aspirations.
Your role and responsibilities
As a PhD student, you will:
• Deepen your knowledge while conducting research and writing your thesis
• Engage in enriching collaborations and meaningful discussions
• Share your work through oral and written communication
• Participate in conferences, workshops, and other opportunities for learning and growth
In addition, 20% of your position will typically involve departmental duties, such as contributing to teaching or other academic activities.
Who we are looking for
We encourage applications from candidates who bring diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds. To thrive in this role, you should:
• Have a strong foundation and genuine interest in mathematics, as shown by excellent course grades and undergraduate thesis work
• Hold a master's degree or 4-year bachelor's degree in mathematics or a related field by the time you start
• Possess strong communication skills in both written and spoken English
