hela Sverige Linnaeus University is the result of a merger between Kalmar University and Växjö University. Together we are creating a new, exciting university with 31 000 students and 2 000 employees. Linnaeus University is a modern, international university in the Småland region of Sweden, where people can grow to reach their potential. For more information see: Lnu.se
The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology.
The Linnaeus University Centre for Ecology and Evolution in Microbial model Systems (EEMiS) now seeks a PhD student in Ecology.
Project title: Ecology of coastal fish populations
The research project is centered on ecology of coastal fish populations in the Baltic Sea. From fish populations defined by genetic markers (microsatellites), traits like growth rate, reproduction potential and reproduction strategies are followed. Further, the current project aims to describe and understand the interactions (effect of) with microbial communities on fish in the spawning and recruitment areas.
The research environment
The EEMiS environment is a center of excellence within Linnaeus University involving larger teams of multidisciplinary researchers. Therefore, the successful applicant will interact with other existing research projects within EEMiS.
Requirements
Basic requirements for post-graduate studies are laid out in the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (Högskoleförordningen), Chapter 7. The PhD studies are limited to 4 years (100%). Persons with combined experience in fish ecology, molecular biology, limnology, evolution, and microbiology are encouraged to apply. The starting point for the PhD education is flexible and may be negotiated.
