Publiceringsdatum2008-11-19ArbetsuppgifterPhD – Reliable Wireless Machine-to-Machine, Communications in Electromagnetic Disturbed Industrial Environments
A rapidly growing market is wireless communications for machine-to-machine communications in industries and hospitals. There are two major challenges associated with industrial wireless applications compared to an office environment. Multi-path propagation can usually cause many more severe distortions in environments with large halls and lots of objects with metallic surfaces. Industrial environments also usually exhibit significantly higher levels of radiated electromagnetic interference than in an office environment. This electromagnetic interference arises from different electronic systems from processes and maintenance systems. Present commercial wireless communication technologies are not optimized to cope with these kinds of interference environments. The objective of this project is therefore to characterize these environments and develop improvements of wireless technologies to increase the reliability for use in industrial environments.
The project will be carried out in cooperation with two universities and six industrial partners and one research institute. The project will be managed at the Centre for Radio Measurement Technology at the University of Gävle and the Graduate School for Telecommunication. The doctorial studies aim to lead to Doctoral degree with the subject Telecommunication at Royal Institute of Technology (KTH).
The primary task will be research and PhD studies, but teaching and/or administrative tasks may be included to maximum of 20 % of full time. Teaching may be given in Swedish and English, thus fluency in English and Swedish are considered an additional qualification.
KvalifikationerThe position as PhD student is full-time and temporary, with duties to begin as soon as possible. A PhD position in Sweden is one year with an intention of an annual prolongation of maximum five years in total. The position is at Gävle.
